Forehead Wrinkles Can Be Treated With a Brow Lift

Horizontal wrinkles on the forehead make men and women self-conscious about their appearance. There are non-surgical methods available to resolve these wrinkles, but these are only temporary. If you’re looking for a permanent way to erase forehead wrinkles, you may be interested in a brow lift.

Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift is a cosmetic procedure used to eliminate creases from the forehead region, lift sagging eyebrows, and treat hooded eyelids.

CONSIDERING A FOREHEAD LIFT?

As with any cosmetic surgery, there are certain factors that determine a patient’s eligibility. In general, the brow lift is suitable for men and women who yearn for smooth, crease-free forehead skin.

An ideal candidate for a brow lift is in good overall health without any serious medical condition and is between the age of 40 and 60. Individuals over 60 are also eligible, but the results may vary given the fragile nature of aging skin.

The brow lift is a corrective step for those individuals who are born with furrowed facial lines, low eyebrows, or heavy brows. Forehead creases or dropping eyebrows start to show after a certain age. Patients who are in their 20s and 30s are advised to wait until their 40s to avail the benefits of a brow lift.

An exception to this recommendation is those individuals who suffer from hereditary physical problems. In such cases, a traditional brow lift is an excellent solution.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SURGERY

A traditional brow lift begins with the administration of anesthesia. With general anesthesia, the patient is rendered unconscious for the duration of the procedure.

Next, an incision is made below the hairline across the forehead. Wrinkles and eyebrows are repositioned by lifting the skin up and smoothing out the creases internally. At this juncture, if there is any excess skin, it is trimmed away. The incision is then closed with sutures.

PREPARING FOR A BROW LIFT

The first thing to do when preparing for your brow lift is quitting smoking, at least for a time. Healing skin requires oxygen and nourishment. Smokers have constricted blood vessels, and when a blood vessel is constricted, it has trouble delivering oxygen and nourishment to the damaged skin. This results in drawn-out healing processes and potential complications.

The second instruction is to avoid blood-thinning medications, both herbal and prescription. Blood thinners cause excess bleeding during and after surgery. Patients are also restricted from consuming food after midnight on the day of the surgery.

Prepare for recovery well in advance by stocking up with pain-relieving medications, groceries, and bandages.

RECOVERY FROM BROW-LIFT SURGERY

Precise post-operative instructions are given by Dr. Salas during your consultation. Follow these instructions for a more comfortable healing process and higher quality results.

Since the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, driving oneself home afterwards will not be an option. The patient should make plans in advance for a friend or family member to take them back home.

During healing, you will need to spend time resting. You should use ice packs to minimize post-operative swelling and bruising.
