The Mastopexy

The mastopexy is also known as a breast lift. In most cases, this surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. During the procedure, the patient is given anesthesia and breast implants are inserted. Here at Salas Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer this cosmetic solution to our patients and encourage you to learn more about it.

The Procedure for a Mastopexy

The mastopexy is performed in either an outpatient surgery center or a hospital. In some cases the surgeon will have a personal operating room. Prior to your procedure, you will have the opportunity to talk to the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nursing staff. The new positioning of your nipple will be marked by the surgeon. You will then be taken to the operating room and receive general anesthesia. Excess skin will be removed by the surgeon so your breast tissue can be lifted into the correct location. If you are receiving implants, they will be inserted at this time. Your openings are then sealed.

There are a few different surgical openings used for a mastopexy; this is dependent on how much lift your breasts need. The openings are placed around the areola and from the areola to the crease beneath the breast. The drains and bandages are removed when you have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon one or two days after your surgery. The shape and size of your breasts will improve as time goes by. It is important to follow the instructions of your surgeon regarding your level of activity.

The Benefits of a Mastopexy

The procedure provides breasts that have drooped due to age with a much more youthful look. This usually provides the women with the feeling of being more attractive and younger. The mastopexy is also an excellent option if you worked hard to improve your body appearance and shape by eating a healthy diet and exercising. This is especially true if your body has not conformed to your new curves. This can result in flabby and loose skin. Substantial weight loss usually becomes apparent in the breasts first, causing them to droop. This surgery will enable you to show off your efforts with more youthful, rejuvenated breasts.
